Some watched for the halftime show. Some just wanted to eat the good snacks. Some watched to see if the Philadelphia Eagles could spoil a potential Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl championship three-peat (spoiler alert: they did).
Sure, we watched for all of those reasons (well, some of us did) but, for us, the stars of the day are the advertisers. So, we watched for the commercials!
The average price tag for a :30 spot this year was a whopping $8 million! 🤯
So, who did the most with those valuable ad dollars and successfully grabbed our attention during a day cluttered with commercials and lots of distractions?
Here's our list of the biggest ads from the Big Game:
"Take Me home" – Rocket
Lauren Ridgley, CEO
My favorite ad execution of the game was the Rocket Mortgage commercial playing John Denver's "Country Road Take Me Home" song followed immediately by a shot inside the stadium of the crowd singing along while Rocket Mortgage digital signage was displayed throughout the dome. The amount of creativity and logistics it took to pull this off is mind boggling and it worked, making the ad that much more memorable. The ad was top notch on its own pulling on the heartstrings of all of us who want a place to simply call home. I found myself getting a bit emotional watching it!
Here's the backstory on how this commercial came together!
"Kiss from a Lime" – Mountain Dew
Ryan Pitz, Chief Growth Officer
This commercial was so absurd and silly it made me laugh. Plus it brought back lots of 90’s high school memories.
This ad was so good, it was a top pick for three of our team members!
"So Win" – Nike
Sarah Williams, COO
As a female athlete, Nike’s campaign hit home. It’s about time women in sports get the spotlight they deserve. With bold storytelling and unstoppable energy, Nike is leading the charge, proving that women aren’t just part of the game, we’re changing it.
Carissa Polo, Jr. Digital Media Buyer
Women are constantly battling society's predisposition to pushing impossibly contradictory gendered expectations on them. I love how Nike features iconic women athletes who boldly argue that you'll be told you can't do it, so you should do it (and win) anyway. It's major validation for those of us in the "Oh yeah? Watch me" club.
Lexie Thomas, Digital Media Buyer
My favorite Super Bowl commercial was Nike's "So Win" ad. I thought it was a powerful celebration of women's achievements in sports and that it was an incredibly important message to amplify at the moment. I felt inspired! I love thinking of all the young girls seeing this ad.
"Safe for Work" – Liquid Death
Maia Brusseau, Account Director
The Liquid Death creative team consistently comes up with fresh, fun ideas, and this commercial is no exception. No celebrity cameos or overdone production, just a fun spot with a jingle that gives old beer commercial vibes. I can't get it out of my head! Cheers!
We're Gonna Knock You Out" – Pfizer
Stacy Woelber, Senior Media Buyer
There were several commercials I liked this year, but the one that stood out to me is the Pfizer one. It seems almost every family has been touched by cancer and this one shows strength and determination to fight and beat cancer.
“These Legs” – Dove
Sarah Philpott, Integrated Media Buyer:
A thought-provoking and impactful ad. I love that it sparks reflection, influences change, and makes me feel good about a product I purchase. It’s a powerful reminder that little eyes and ears are always paying attention. Here’s to embracing a more positive, empowering perspective, and maybe even seeing the world through the lens of a child. Let's view ourselves as unstoppable!
"Goldilocks and the Three Trucks" – Ram Trucks
Andy Sumlin, Digital Media Buyer
I'm going to pick this one because it's silly and creative and I want to shout out my old agency that made it, GSD&M in Austin!
